Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Estates to join our team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership on estate matters and overseeing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Estate function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align with the Council's broader strategic goals by fostering opportunities related to external partnership working, such as shared services with other public sector organisations.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement in service delivery, processes, and ways of working.
  • Manage team performance and resources, focusing on performance, development, attendance, and health and safety.
  • Implement and review the Estate Plan in line with best practices in asset management.
  • Ensure compliance and promote a culture of safety, planning and delivering 100% compliance across the estate regarding health and safety, legislative, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • A proven record of delivering and leading a service, with extensive experience of operating successfully within a senior leadership team, advising and supporting on Estate matters at Board level.
  • Strategic leadership and collaboration skills to lead and embed a performance-focused culture to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • A thorough understanding of the relationships and culture of organisations that impact on the wider Council.
  • Ability to communicate a compelling vision to key stakeholders internally and externally, to find creative solutions to achieve outcomes in the best interests of the City of Colchester.
