Humanitarian Affairs Officer Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Humanitarian Affairs Officer to join our team at MSF UK. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced professional to work on advocacy, policy, and humanitarian issues.

Job Description:

The Humanitarian Affairs Officer will play a critical role in advancing MSF's humanitarian agenda by providing technical expertise, strategic advice, and support to the organization's operations and advocacy efforts. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and identify key issues, concerns, or trends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advocacy and Policy Work: Support the development and implementation of advocacy strategies and plans aimed at addressing health and humanitarian needs of populations affected by conflict, disaster, or neglect.
  • Data Collection and Research: Conduct data collection and research to provide reliable information for operational and advocacy decision-making.
  • Maintenance of Networks: Map and keep abreast of strategies and activities of relevant NGOs, UN agencies, ICRC, donors, authorities, and other actors to inform MSF's decision-making.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree in one of the following fields: anthropology/social/political sciences, law, gender studies, or protection.
  • At least two years' experience working in humanitarian contexts (including conflict, disaster, or resource-poor environments) with MSF or another NGO.
  • Essential proficiency in English and one of the following languages: French, Arabic, or Spanish.
  • Excellent writing skills with proven track record of drafting clear, concise documentation on sensitive or complex topics.
  • Ability to work independently and negotiate difficult situations with diplomacy and tact.
Salary:

The salary for this position is £45,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Location:

This role will be based in London, with frequent travel to MSF projects and meetings.
