About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Apple Orchard. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing a nurturing and supportive environment for young males aged 11-18 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, taking into account individual developmental needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Keep well-informed of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and the national minimum standards are met at all times.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress and keep accurate records of their achievements, behaviour, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities/placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers in a way that supports young people's learning and development and values parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Be flexible within working practices of the home, where needed, including undertaking domestic tasks within the home.
  • Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience of working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour and a willingness to further develop your skills.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle, as public transport is not a viable option due to the rural location of our services.
  • A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or equivalent – or be willing to work towards a required qualification.
  • Flexibility with working hours and the ability to work a mixture of days, evenings, and weekends, including shift work.
  • The ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets the needs of the individual.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and listen to young people and their families.
