About the Role:


Apple Orchard seeks a highly motivated Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing a nurturing environment for young males aged 13-18 years.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, taking into account individual developmental needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Keep well-informed of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure compliance with the Children's Act, Children's Homes Regulations, and the National Minimum Standards.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress, keeping accurate records of their achievements, behavior, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities to ensure the care provided to young people is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers to support young people's learning and development.
  • Be flexible within working practices, undertaking domestic tasks as needed, including meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping.
  • Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure the home's philosophy is fulfilled.
  • Keep clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring entries are non-stigmatising and distinguished between fact and opinion.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • A willingness to develop skills and experience working with teenage boys or challenging behavior.
  • A driving license and access to a vehicle, as public transport is not a viable option due to our rural location.
  • A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma or equivalent qualification, or a willingness to work towards a required qualification.
  • The ability to engage young people in a wide range of activities and support them through their time at Apple Orchard.
  • Flexibility with working hours, including shift work, although you will have every other weekend off.
  • The ability to challenge unacceptable behavior, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets the needs of the individual.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow delegated tasks and handovers.
  • Maintenance of policies and procedures, with effective communication and engagement skills.
