About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at The University of Manchester. As a Research Scientist in Molecular Microbiology, you will be working at the intersection of evolutionary, molecular, micro, and synthetic biology to address fundamental and applied questions about bacterial transcriptional regulation and antimicrobial resistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement synthetic genetic systems in bacteria to study diverse topics, including evolution of multidrug resistance, regulation of multi-drug efflux pumps, and transcriptional crosstalk between plasmids and bacterial hosts.
  • Conduct experiments using Escherichia coli as a model system and analyze data to draw conclusions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement research projects and share knowledge and expertise.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory protocols and procedures to ensure high-quality research outcomes.
  • Communicate research findings through publications and presentations.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant biological science subject or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in molecular microbiology and/or experimental evolution, including manipulating knockout libraries and working with clinically isolated plasmids.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and implement experiments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
