Job Title: Teaching Assistant - SEMH/SEND School

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a dynamic and supportive Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school. The successful candidate will have experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and be able to provide individualized support to help them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH and other special educational needs in their learning and development.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to individual student needs.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with severe autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or mental health disorders.
  • Help manage classroom behavior and create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students in developing social skills and coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs).

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience in a similar setting, such as a SEND school, care home working with severe ASD patients, or working with individuals with mental health disorders.
  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology is highly desirable for those looking to gain hands-on experience in an educational setting.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with young people facing significant challenges.
  • Attributes: A proactive and resilient approach, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils.
