Position Overview

As a vital member of the Modelling & Simulation (M&S) team, you will contribute to the development of platforms throughout their entire lifecycle, from initial concept analysis to Test & Evaluation (T&E) and Training. In the role of Simulator Engineer, you will be integrated into the Simulation department within the T&E Evaluation organization.

The team focuses on creating the Active Cockpit simulator along with its associated tools, collaborating closely with engineers and pilots to prototype innovative avionic and cockpit designs. This position offers a diverse range of opportunities, from advanced software engineering to trial preparation, execution, and analysis. While some team members may specialize, others will appreciate the variety and extensive experience available within the Simulation department.

This role requires onsite presence for a minimum of four days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

As a C++ Software Developer, you will be tasked with:

  • Creating large-scale, mission-critical software solutions.
  • Taking charge of requirements, including design, implementation, system integration, and testing, while adhering to timelines and estimates.
  • Applying best practices in systems engineering.
  • Providing progress reports and constructive feedback to team members and leadership.
  • Producing comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Designing intricate technical solutions.
  • Planning and estimating development tasks.
  • Managing technical risks and project tasks.
  • Collaborating with clients to support delivered systems and address issues.
  • Mentoring and managing team members.
  • Enhancing and refining development processes.
  • Developing system architectures to meet evolving IT and IT security needs.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient programming skills in C/C++ using Visual Studio.
  • Experience in developing User Interfaces and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI).
  • Familiarity with configuration control tools such as Mercurial and/or Git.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Security Clearance is required.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Experience in leading tasks, including Quality Management System (QMS) documentation.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • Cross-platform development experience on Windows and Linux.
  • Knowledge of Eurofighter, Typhoon, Avionics, or Mission systems.
  • Experience using Jira for software task management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence in presenting information to diverse stakeholders.
  • General knowledge and interest in military aircraft.

Qualifications:

  • HND/HNC, degree (BSc/BEng/MSc/MEng) in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Must be a UK Citizen with eligibility for SC clearance.
