Position Overview

The successful candidate will become a vital member of the Modelling & Simulation (M&S) team, contributing to the development and enhancement of platforms throughout their entire lifecycle, from initial concept analysis to rigorous Test & Evaluation (T&E) and Training phases. As a Simulator Engineer, you will engage with the Simulation department within the T&E Evaluation organization.

This team is responsible for the development of the Active Cockpit simulator and its associated tools, collaborating closely with engineers and pilots to prototype innovative avionic and cockpit designs. The role offers a diverse range of opportunities, from advanced software engineering to trial preparation, execution, and subsequent analysis. Team members may choose to specialize or enjoy a broad spectrum of experiences within the Simulation department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop large-scale, mission-critical software solutions.
  • Take ownership of requirements, encompassing design, implementation, system integration, and testing, all while adhering to schedules and estimates.
  • Implement best practices in systems engineering.
  • Provide progress reports and constructive feedback to team members and leadership.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Architect complex technical solutions.
  • Plan and estimate development activities effectively.
  • Manage technical risks and tasks efficiently.
  • Collaborate with clients to support delivered systems and address any issues.
  • Mentor and manage team members.
  • Refine and enhance development processes.
  • Develop system architectures that align with emerging IT and IT Security requirements.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proficient programming skills in C/C++ using Visual Studio.
  • Experience in developing User Interfaces / Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
  • Familiarity with configuration control tools such as Mercurial and/or Git.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
  • Creative and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Eligibility for Security Clearance is required.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Experience in leading tasks, including Quality Management System (QMS) documentation.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • Cross-platform development experience on Windows and Linux.
  • Knowledge of Eurofighter, Typhoon, Avionics, or Mission systems.
  • Proficiency in using Jira for software task management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Confidence in presenting information to diverse stakeholders.
  • General knowledge and interest in military aircraft.

Qualifications:

  • HND/HNC, or a degree (BSc/BEng/MSc/MEng) in a relevant STEM field or equivalent experience.
  • Must be a UK Citizen with eligibility for SC clearance.
