About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Coordinator to join our team at the BBC. As a key member of our technical operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of live TV programmes, including setting up lines recordings, managing switching between networks, and operating studio equipment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Set up lines recordings and ensure correct routing for programmes, liaising with editorial colleagues to produce content for programmes
  • Manage switching between networks to correctly feed content to numerous different outlets
  • Line up and assess quality of outside sources, including LiveU, Zoom, Skype, and associated communications, to establish and test incoming and outgoing sound and vision circuits
  • Support the director by monitoring newsroom production and gallery automation systems to ensure the smooth running of live programmes
  • Operate the studio lighting desk and rig and set lamps in the studios to production requirements
  • Operate camera controls (Camera Control Unit (CCU) and Robotics) to ensure high-quality matched camera outputs in terms of exposure, black level, and colour
  • Line up gallery monitors in terms of black level, brightness, and colour balance
  • Rig, de-rig, test, line up, and operate studio equipment, including cameras, their mountings, monitors, lighting consoles, and associated cabling
Requirements
  • Excellent technical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, as well as strong IT skills and the ability to communicate effectively with operational and editorial colleagues
  • Ability to think clearly under pressure and be an effective, positive, and proactive team member
  • Broad knowledge of national and international news and current affairs
  • Good understanding of the journalistic and production aims of the output, as well as the ability to facilitate editorial and policy decisions based on a clear understanding of the BBC's news agenda
  • Awareness of BBC policy on current Health and Safety regulations and knowledge of news production computer systems
