We are seeking an animal welfare professional to join our team at Leeds City College. As an Animal Welfare Apprentice, you will be responsible for caring for our animals in our animal care centre and facilitating small groups of students in practical areas.

The School of Animal Care and Land Management is a growing and aspirational department based at Temple Newsam in Leeds. Our team consists of a Head of Department, Deputy Head of Department, Programme managers, Course Leader, Teachers, learning support assistants (LSA) and Instructor/Technicians. Our team works to support our learners to achieve their full potential and achieve their vocational qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of animal welfare at all times by ensuring optimum animal husbandry.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness in the animal care centre.
  • Order consumables and equipment for the curriculum area.
  • Prepare facilities and equipment for teaching.
  • Maintain and organise teaching spaces in relation to curriculum need.
  • Facilitate small groups of students in practical areas.
  • Maintain 20% off-the-job training.

About You

  • Have a minimum of a level 1 qualification in a related subject.
  • Have recent experience working with a range of animals.
  • Work well as part of a team and be resilient, adaptable and enthusiastic.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be happy working with people as well as being able to work independently when required.
  • Have a level 2 in English and Maths; whilst this is an advantage however it is not an essential requirement as you can undertake English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship.
