About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Autism Specialist Teacher to join our team on a temporary basis. As a key member of our Autism Support Team, you will play a vital role in supporting learners with autism and those under assessment for a possible Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with colleagues from across our schools, the Inclusion Service, Health, and Children's Services to provide advice, support, and training to learners, parents/carers, and other professionals.
  • Contribute to raising awareness, increasing expertise, and knowledge across our schools, and model and support excellent inclusive practice in the field of autism.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support learners with autism, including the use of access technology and Additional Learning Needs strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans for learners with autism.
  • Provide training and support to teachers and other professionals on autism awareness, understanding, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to autism and inclusion.
Requirements
  • A strong understanding of the range of needs of autistic learners and their implications for communication, teaching, and learning.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in the field of autism.
  • A thorough knowledge of strategies that impact on learners with autism.
  • Additional qualifications in the field of ALN/SEN, or a clear commitment to obtain this qualification.
  • Significant proven teaching experience of working with autistic learners and leading school-based improvement projects in this area.
  • Secure knowledge and evidence of understanding both local and national initiatives and developments in relation to ALN, emotional health and wellbeing needs, and the new curriculum.
  • Experience of multi-agency working, including parents/carers.
  • Experience of applying person-centred planning approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage change, problem-solve, use high levels of initiative, and manage own workload effectively.
