Research Position Description

At Royensoc, we invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in our Vector Biology Department. This opportunity focuses on exploring the evolution of insecticide resistance in disease vectors using cutting-edge genomic and transcriptomic approaches.

The selected candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team collaborating with prestigious institutions, such as the Uganda Virus Research Institute, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, and the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Engage in state-of-the-art genetic research to better understand disease vectors
  • Design, implement, and analyze comprehensive genomic and transcriptomic studies to address key evolutionary questions in Anopheles mosquitoes
Serve as a mentor and collaborator for team members
  • Develop training materials and deliver expert instruction in molecular and analytical techniques
  • Partner with PhD students to co-design and supervise research projects
  • Mentor laboratory staff to enhance project success
  • Support colleagues in data analysis for related research projects
  • Contribute original ideas and data to secure funding for new projects
Promote research excellence through publications and conference presentations
  • Collaborate with principal investigators to draft research grant proposals
  • Author and publish research papers in leading scientific journals
  • Present findings at conferences and symposia relevant to the field
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • PhD in Biology, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Ecology, or Genomics
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology and/or proficiency in next-generation sequencing technologies and/or familiarity with epidemiology, data management, and bioinformatics
  • Demonstrated excellence in research and presentation skills
  • Published research in reputable academic journals
  • Familiarity with the department's research focus and broader Vector Biology Department goals

Estimated annual salary: £39,105 to £45,163 based on experience.
