Opportunity for Senior Commissioning Editor in Academic Publishing

We are looking for an experienced Senior Commissioning Editor to cover a maternity leave and continue the consistent growth of our classical studies list. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development of our award-winning academic division.

About the Division:

Bloomsbury's Academic division publishes a diverse portfolio of research monographs, student introductions, and textbooks across various subjects, including classical studies. With particular strengths in ancient drama, classical reception, and language teaching, we aim to expand our publishing in these areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the classical studies list, including commissioning new books and analyzing market trends.
  • Represent the list at conferences, events, and campus visits.
  • Collaborate with the assistant editor to expand our publishing in key strategic areas.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with the classical studies subject area, including a network of contacts.
  • Knowledge of academic publishing trends and developments.
  • Creative and commercial approach to list development and commissioning.
  • Strong analytic and financial skills, and a competent user of publishing software systems.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary starting from £37,000 (full-time equivalent), depending on skills and experience.
  • A hybrid working pattern of 2 days office-based / 3 days home-based (or fully office-based if preferred).
  • 25 days holiday + 5 days Christmas company holiday.
  • Two paid Personal Wellness Days.
  • Flexible Fridays – take Friday afternoon off by working an additional 3 hours and 30 minutes earlier in the week.
