Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, motivated, and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our vibrant integrated health and social care Community Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will be required to fulfill the role of an Occupational Therapist within the older adult CMHT multidisciplinary team, based at Claire House in Wigan, undertaking Occupational therapy assessments and specific OT work, contributing to the development of the occupational therapy service and providing advice to colleagues.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will act as an Occupational Therapist for the Later Life & Memory Service. They will carry out evidence-based Occupational Therapy assessments, including standardized assessments and patient reviews. They will be delivering diagnosis of dementia and providing post-diagnostic treatment and support, including groups. They will participate in the team's duty rota.

Person Specification

The post holder will be expected to have demonstrable experience of working as a qualified Occupational Therapist, providing Occupational Therapy in a mental health setting, using a variety of Occupational vocational assessments, planning and carrying out evidence-based interventions, and experience of working with older adults.

Desirable criteria include experience of working with people living with dementia and their carers, experience of supervising support staff, and experience of presenting in a group setting.

The post holder will be expected to have a Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy, registration with HPC, and field work educators qualification within 1 year of appointment.

Desirable criteria include Model of Human Occupation training, Care Programme Approach Training, and Equality Diversity Awareness Training.

The post holder will be expected to have knowledge of social inclusion and recovery models, evidence-based Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions relevant to mental health, mental health legislation, reflective practice, knowledge of local cultures, social diversity, and an ability to work as an OT within this context, knowledge of the CPA process, risk assessment, and safeguarding.

Desirable criteria include experience of working with people living with dementia.

The post holder will be expected to have the ability to apply models of human occupation, use a variety of Occupational assessments, develop case formulation from assessment, plan and implement evidence-based interventions aimed at achieving user goals, and use effective evidence-based communication skills.

Desirable criteria include time management skills.
