About the Role
The Whalebridge Practice is seeking a highly skilled and motivated GP Assistant to join our team. As a GP Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinicians and providing exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Support doctors with administrative tasks, including adding information to patient records and contacting patients to obtain information.
- Action computer tasks and liaise with external organisations to obtain information.
- Prepare and send referrals via the e-referral system and complete forms for scrutiny and signature by doctors.
- Generate letters and electronic messages on behalf of GPs and request pathology on the ICE system.
- Carry out basic clinical tasks, including dipping urine samples, taking blood pressure, and performing ECGs, when requested by a GP.
Professional Development
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to complete training on all areas within the Health Education England General Practice Assistant Competency Framework. This will include training on various IT systems, developing a working knowledge of admin processes, and developing and maintaining basic clinical skills.
Person Specification
- Essential qualifications: completed or working towards completing the GP Assistant framework, completed a phlebotomy course, and demonstrated Maths and English at GCSE level.
- Essential experience: worked in a health environment, worked in a team, worked with a clinical IT system, and used clinical coding.
- Additional criteria: working knowledge of IT systems such as SystmOne and Microsoft Office products, understanding of confidentiality, knowledge of medical terminology, understanding of the referral process, excellent written and verbal communication, and excellent inter-personal skills.
