We are seeking a highly experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapist to join our team as a clinical leader. As an Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for providing specialist OT assessments and interventions, contributing to the development and delivery of the Occupational Therapy service and Group programme within Bexley locality.

This role involves clinical leadership and supervision of the ADAPT OT staff, including one full-time Band 6 OT and one part-time OT assistant who works across two teams. You will also be expected to work on some generic care co-ordination tasks alongside having an OT caseload.

Main Duties:
  • You will be responsible for the Care Co-ordination of a small specified caseload within the Anxiety, Depression, Affective Disorders, Personality Disorders and Trauma (ADAPT) pathway.
  • You will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), offering specialist occupational performance assessments and interventions, utilising a wide range of skills and experience to promote social inclusion opportunities.
  • As a clinical specialist OT, you will provide clinical supervision to junior staff and undertake delegated clinical tasks, as required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • To manage a clinical caseload.
  • To work as a member of the MDT.
  • To lead on the development of evidence-based OT practice.
  • To provide OT-specific assessment & interventions via groups & individual work related to self-care, work, and leisure.
  • To Care co-ordinate a small generic caseload, with a maximum percentage of role as care coordinator being 30%.
  • To lead on service development.
  • To lead/participate in research/audit activities.
  • Contribute to and carry out risk assessment & risk management plans.
  • To provide specialist OT advice to the MDT.
  • To work independently without direct supervision.
  • To be an OT specialist and have in-depth knowledge of OT assessment & interventions for the client group.
  • To provide clinical support and leadership for junior staff, and OT students on fieldwork placement.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust-wide OT service.
  • To undertake identified generic responsibilities for an agreed percentage of time.
  • To follow an agreed Job Plan.
  • To work with clients who have complex needs and challenging behaviour.
  • To adhere to Trust requirements for management of violence training relevant to clinical area.

We are looking for someone with at least 6 years of post-registration experience as an OT, including a minimum of 2 years as a senior/Band 6 practitioner within a relevant mental health setting. You should also have extensive clinical experience, including individual and group work reflecting social inclusion.

We estimate the salary for this position to be around £45,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
