Process Improvement Specialist for Surface Technologies

Carbon 60 is working in partnership with a leading UK-based aviation MRO provider to recruit an experienced Process Engineer.

Role Overview

This is a permanent, full-time position based on site and will report directly into the Production Manager. The role involves being responsible for creating, reviewing, and continuously improving all plating shop processes and standards.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Developing, configuring, and optimizing processes from inception to steady-state monitoring, assessing data for best practices, and identifying areas for continuous improvement.
  2. Performing and maintaining FMEA analysis for all plating shop processes, ensuring risk mitigation actions are in place, and creating technical risk assessments for the Surface Technology department.
  3. Defining operational quality metrics for the Operations team, ensuring quality trends can be captured, and supporting root cause analysis. Developing engineering documentation for the plating shop, including job cards and related processes.
  4. Identifying new production tooling requirements where necessary for new capabilities or process improvements.
  5. Supporting internal and external resources in producing new tooling to ensure product quality, throughput, and consistency. Providing production with required documentation for tool use.
  6. Performing economic analysis of alternative chemistries and process operations, aligning with processes within the wider Product division.
  7. Working with OEMs for concessions/approvals for improvements to plating shop processes to optimize the production system.
  8. Developing 21J/CRAS approvals for processes and procedural improvements over OEM-published data (where applicable).
  9. Training in Lean manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Statistical Process Control.
  10. Excellent IT and numeracy skills, ideally with knowledge of MRP & ERP/MS Office systems.
  11. Experience working within an Aerospace environment to EASA 145 standard or equivalent manufacturing/maintenance industry.

Estimated salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
