Job Overview

As a Senior Ecologist at Macstaff, you will play a key role in leading our team in delivering innovative solutions for Biodiversity Net Gain. Your expertise will be crucial in establishing habitat banks and managing planning projects, with a focus on biodiversity conservation and enhancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and support for habitat surveys and protected species assessments.
  • Conduct protected species surveying, including GCN, Dormice, reptiles, and bats.
  • Offer expert advice and guidance on biodiversity conservation and enhancement measures.
  • Develop and implement Biodiversity Net Gain strategies and action plans.
  • Liaise with government bodies to ensure compliance with biodiversity regulations.
  • Prepare and present reports, including Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Ecology or a related field.
  • CIEEM Accreditation.
  • Minimum 5 years of field experience in Ecology.
  • Possession of two or more European Protected Species survey licences.
  • Strong botanical knowledge and ability to conduct standardised surveys.
  • Knowledge of biodiversity legislation and policies.
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking preliminary ecological appraisals.
  • Experience in preparing and implementing Biodiversity Net Gain plans.
  • Strong understanding of ecological principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools.
