About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Advisor to join our Engineering Finance team at Network Rail. As a key member of our corporate structure, you will provide expert financial guidance and support to our business leaders across various functions.

Your primary responsibility will be to deliver professional finance and accounting advice to senior budget holders, ensuring they have a deep understanding of their business performance. You will be the go-to expert on accounting practices, advising on financial results and forecasts, and managing corporate governance throughout the cost centers you oversee.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Advice and Guidance: Provide expert financial advice and guidance to senior budget holders, helping them understand the impact of period results and forecasts against budgets.
  2. Accounting Expertise: Be the expert on accounting practices, advising on financial results and forecasts for budget holders, including preparing period accruals, transfers, and adjustments.
  3. CORPORATE GOVERNANCE: Manage corporate governance throughout the cost centers you manage, conducting deep dives and reviewing compliance with financial regulations to protect the business from legal or negative consequences.
  4. Business Review and Reporting: Deliver expert and accurate business review information and reporting, highlighting any significant issues with financial and other business results.
  5. Commercial Risk Management: Identify and proactively manage commercial risks, including the financial suitability of new customers or suppliers, reducing the potential risk impact on the business area.
  6. Central Accounting Functions: Manage the performance of central accounting functions to deliver for the cost center area, enabling an efficiently and effective accounting service.
  7. Investment Appraisals and Business Case Analysis: Collate, investigate, and make recommendations for investment appraisals and business case analysis to aid business decisions.
