The Energy Division at ARM is seeking a skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer to join a leading Nuclear client based in Plymouth.

Job Overview

To deliver mechanical engineering work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule, and cost. Responsible for the technical aspects of mechanical engineering packages from identification of the need to handover.

  1. Undertake technical delivery of one or more design packages as directed by the Principal Mechanical Engineer.
  2. Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget.
  3. Plan for effective project implementation.
  4. Ensure that staff and contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment.
  5. Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post, and project requirements.
  6. Sound project specification, planning, project management, and budgeting experience.
  7. Sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety, and Quality requirements, and ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures.
  8. Awareness of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities.

Qualifications:

  1. A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
  2. Chartered Engineer, registered with the Engineering Council or working towards Chartered status.
  3. Design of mechanical and nuclear process systems, e.g., fresh water, demineralised water, radioactive effluent processing, etc.
  4. Design of industrial gas systems, e.g., low and high pressure air, welding gases, etc.
  5. Design of mechanical building services.
  6. Awareness of seismic analysis for mechanical process equipment.
  7. Knowledge of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Nuclear Safety Functions.
