Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team in East Sussex. As a Clinical Specialist, you will be responsible for managing a complex and specialist clinical caseload and acting as a specialist resource to the Children's Therapies team and other professionals and agencies.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children with autism, learning disability, and complex disability, including the use of hi-tech AAC. You will be responsible for supporting the work of SEND, including completion of education, health, and care needs assessments and occasional involvement in SENDIST appeal hearings as an expert witness.
As a member of our integrated therapy service, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to provide seamless care. We offer a strong commitment to training and development, with robust supervision and shadowing opportunities across the service.
Main Duties of the Job- To manage a complex and specialist clinical caseload and act as a specialist resource to the Children's Therapies team and other professionals and agencies.
- To support the work of SEND, including completion of education, health, and care needs assessments and occasional involvement in SENDIST appeal hearings as an expert witness.
- To supervise identified staff within the team in collaboration with the Head of Service, Operational Manager, and Team Co-ordinator.
- To contribute to the wider work of the team, including initial assessment clinics, referral triage, and Therapy One Point.
- To ensure the team provides a high-quality and cost-effective clinical service to CYP and their families in collaboration with the Head of Service, Operational Manager, and Team Co-ordinator.
- Registered Healthcare Professional with relevant Professional body (1st Level Nurse/NMC or Physiotherapist; etc/HCPC).
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master's degree equivalent relevant to specialist clinical area.
- Minimum of 4 years paediatric experience.
- Evidence of continued professional development in area of clinical specialism.
- Experience of providing line supervision and/or clinical supervision in area of clinical specialism.
- Evidence of creating profession-specific documentation (e.g. care pathways/leaflets).
- Knowledge of current local and national policies relevant to health, social care, and education.
- Knowledge and understanding of organisational governance issues and policies.
- Current knowledge of child/adult safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Resilient, flexible, self-motivated, and assertive.
- Ability to travel across a variety of sites in East Sussex within a timely manner.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
