Job Description Summary

Join GE Renewable - Grid Integration in shaping the future of energy transmission. As a Lead Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and delivering customised High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) solutions for utilities worldwide.

Within our cross-centers and multicultural organisation, you will be responsible for designing optimised HVDC substation layouts that integrate all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints.

You will report directly to your regional's Team Leader and functionally to the Plant engineering manager.

With over 130 years of pioneering experience, GE offers two HVDC technologies, Line Commutated Converters (LCC) and Voltage Source Converters (VSC), to support a broad range of applications and deployable in different schemes including overhead line (point to point), back-to-back, submarine/land cable and offshore.

Every HVDC solution is tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of the customers' individual requirements, whether it's for connecting offshore wind generation, long distance power transmission, or energy trading between independent networks.

Responsibilities:
  1. Technical lead for engineering of primary, secondary design of substations / HVDC stations.
  2. Convert project contractual documents into requirements and technical specifications.
  3. Define and control planning for the project, ensuring on-time delivery of your deliverables.
  4. Review and validate engineering deliverables under your project / tender scope.
  5. Lead and design optimised substation & buildings layouts integrating all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints.
  6. Organize and perform projects design / gate reviews related to your function.
  7. Conversant in managing the Interface with other disciplines / suppliers / cross-functions.
  8. Collaborates on project installation, commissioning, and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering errors.
  9. Supports the Project Manager in overall project progress, project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting actions.
  10. Interacts with customers, contractors, suppliers, attends project meetings and presents all technical aspects of project assignments.
  11. Provide answers to client, partners & suppliers technical queries related to your function.
  12. Lead the design engineers / designer for the assigned project(s).
  13. Lead and manage change control requests impacting function's deliverables and schedule.
  14. Provides feasible and cost-effective solution for tender.
  15. Support continuous improvement within function / engineering discipline.
Experience & Qualifications:
  1. Excellent knowledge on High Voltage substation international standards & guidelines (IEC, IEEE, CIGRE etc.) and related equipment and substation design.
  2. Extensive Knowledge of primary / secondary design engineering of substations or power plants or HVDC converter stations.
  3. Exceptional knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) type.
  4. Proficient with Autodesk CAD tools Revit, BIM360 etc.
  5. Good understanding of onshore civil engineering and offshore platform design and requirements.
  6. Leadership (management by influence), analytical mind, rigorous and commitment.
  7. Professional English spoken and written.
  8. Mobility required (on-site visits or client meetings 10% of the time).
