Job Title: Head of Natural History Library Collections

Harvard University seeks an innovative and experienced librarian to lead the development of natural history library collections and services. Reporting to the Director for Sciences and Engineering Services, the Head of Natural History Library Collections will oversee the Ernst Mayr Library for the Museum of Comparative Zoology and the Botany Libraries of the Harvard University Herbaria.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a strategic vision for natural history library collections and services.
  • Oversee the management of collections for Ernst Mayr and the Botany Libraries.
  • Collaborate with faculty and researchers to develop library services that meet their needs.
  • Manage a team responsible for maintaining and strengthening partnerships with faculty, curators, and researchers.
  • Contribute to the Science Libraries Council, a group of science, engineering, mathematics, and medical librarians who work together to share knowledge and collaborate on the selection, acquisition, and licensing of materials.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in library science or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience in academic library administration, with a focus on natural history and museum libraries.
  • Experience with collection management, digital library initiatives, and library services for research and instruction.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in science research and learning.
