Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom Babcock International Group Full time

Job Title: Principal Supportability Engineer – AUKUS Support Programme

At Babcock, we're working to create a safe and secure world, together. As a Principal Supportability Engineer within the new AUKUS Support Programme, you'll play a key role in delivering complex engineering solutions.

'AUKUS', which stands for Australia, United Kingdom and United States, is a trilateral defence and security partnership. The programme involves the acquisition of conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarine fleets, with the support of UK and US. There are three phases to this acquisition programme: phase 1 - the operation of UK and US submarines out of Western Australia and development of the industrial workforce, phase 2 - the acquisition of 3 Virginia Class Submarines from the US and phase 3 – the design and construction of major infrastructure and subsequent construction and delivery of AUKUS Class Submarines in Australia.

The Role

As a Principal Supportability Engineer, you'll have a lead role in the development of technical outputs for the AUKUS Support programme. You'll lead a small team of Supportability Engineers through delivery of various technical taskings. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the customer and senior leadership team to define requirements for future taskings, ensuring balance between customer wants and needs and business capabilities and objectives.
  • Ensuring a high-standard of assurance to technical outputs, which will include robust internal review prior to delivery.
  • Engaging with international stakeholders from various government and industrial organisations, requiring an ability to appreciate a range of different perspectives and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • You will be recognised as a member of the leadership team and will work closely with the Programme Manager and Technical Lead. You will be a key player in determining the future direction of the programme, to ensure that Babcock provide the best possible advice and support to Australia.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with flexible start and finish times.

Essential Experience

We're looking for someone with experience of through-life support to complex assets. You'll have the ability to confidently take a leading role in a technical team that could span multiple disciplines, organisations, agencies and customers. You'll be innovative, bringing forward ideas for solving complex problems with simple and effective solutions. You'll have a flexible approach with the ability to adapt to a changing environment. You'll have background in an Engineering or Operations environment, with the ability to think holistically.

Qualifications

We value difference and don't have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
