About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Internal Auditor to join our Internal Audit team at West Northants Council. As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will play a key role in providing assurance on the effectiveness of our risk management, governance, policy, and internal control processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake a varied and interesting portfolio of internal audit work across all areas of the Council, providing assurance on the effectiveness of our risk management, governance, policy, and internal control processes.
  • Report to the Audit Manager and work closely with the Principal Auditor to deliver high-quality audit work.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Council's business operations, including its risk management, governance, and internal control processes.
  • Identify and assess risks, and develop recommendations to improve the Council's risk management, governance, and internal control processes.
  • Collaborate with other teams across the Council to ensure that audit findings are implemented and that the Council's risk management, governance, and internal control processes are effective.
Requirements
  • Full/part qualified CCAB, or Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), or qualified Association of Accounting (AAT); or actively studying for a relevant qualification and have relevant experience commensurate with these qualifications and/or the role.
  • Proven experience in internal audit, risk management, and governance, preferably in a local government or public sector context.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify and assess risks, and develop recommendations to improve the Council's risk management, governance, and internal control processes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work and meeting deadlines.
