About the Role

Ecclesiastical Insurance Group is seeking a Compliance Officer to join our team in Gloucester. As a key member of our first line of defence, you will provide subject matter expertise on legal and regulatory duties, understand their impact on the business, and implement effective controls.

You will work closely with our UK General Insurance business unit to advise on legal and regulatory developments, identify potential risks, and recommend efficient approaches to management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise on legal and regulatory duties and their impact on the business.
  • Identify legal and regulatory developments affecting the UK General Insurance business unit and advise on the development of appropriate internal controls.
  • Analyse actual and potential impacts on legal and regulatory duties and obligations, and recommend efficient, proportionate, and effective approaches to management.
  • Provide clear and practical explanation, advice, and guidance to stakeholders.
  • Drive, manage, and report on implementation progress within the UK General Insurance business unit.
  • Provide assurance and clear, concise, and accurate reporting to the UK General Insurance Leadership Team on compliance and conduct.
  • Ensure the effective operation of relevant governance and implementation groups.
  • Promote clear and practical understanding of legal and regulatory duties and obligations, and actual and potential risks arising therefrom.
  • Undertake and support root cause analysis of risk incidents and indicators, coordinating with other areas to triangulate across different sources of such information.
  • Contribute towards ensuring that all colleagues in the UK General Insurance business unit remain appropriately informed of their corporate and individual regulatory obligations.
  • Liaise closely with Group Compliance and other SBU colleagues where relevant on UK General Insurance matters to ensure mutual effectiveness.
  • Assist UK General Insurance teams and senior management in responding to assurance and monitoring reviews.
  • Assist where advice is required on business development activities.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a role engaged in a legal and regulatory environment that involved translating rules and principles into practical outcomes for a business.
  • Proven competence in general insurance in the UK.
  • Proven experience of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proactive thinking, including anticipation and preparation for potential challenges and queries.
  • Business writing and preparing regulatory reports summarising information from a variety of sources.
  • Legal, compliance, or risk professional qualification advantageous.
