About the Role

The LGC Group is seeking a highly skilled Programme Manager to lead the development and delivery of our Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) strategy. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice, guidance, and monitoring to NIHR domestic and global health programmes, Infrastructure, Schools, and Units on the development and delivery of their strategic plans for public/community involvement and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and oversight on key work themes around outreach and engagement with people and communities, capacity strengthening, and monitoring and learning.
  • Drive the sharing of PPIE knowledge, effective practice, and expertise at an organisational level and between individuals such as PPIE leads, the public, researchers, and programme leads.
  • Provide oversight, expertise, and coordination to support and monitor the development of PPI in NIHR initiatives managed by NIHR Coordinating Centre.
  • Lead on the development, delivery, monitoring, review, and reporting of our annual involvement and engagement plan, always looking for ways to innovate, streamline processes, and maximise impact.
  • Work with other members of NIHR's senior team, contributing to policy development cross-NIHR strategic priorities, to deliver on a compelling and clear vision and direction for PPIE across NIHR.
  • Establish, maintain, and manage effective external relationships and networks with key individuals and national/international organisations in the voluntary, public, and private sectors to promote and support our PPI and engagement activities, and to build upon shared learning and good practice, and to ensure that the team's work adds value.
  • Lead on people management: including workforce planning, mentoring, and coaching, line management, and staff appraisal to ensure the successful and efficient delivery of the programme.
  • Develop and maintain awareness and understanding of the changing environment, including promoting continuous improvement of, and innovation in PPIE, and keeping up to date on PPI in research literature and practice.
  • The LGC hosts a number of contracts for the NIHR and a series on non-NIHR business. The postholder will seek opportunities to maximise the synergies and benefits to deliver 'added value' and improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Degree in humanities, arts, and social sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of patient and public involvement in the community or healthcare sector and/or research.
  • Experience in planning, delivery, monitoring, review, and reporting strategies.
  • Experience of working with the public, building stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective planning/organisational skills.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent IT skills, including the use of Google Apps.
  • Experience of successfully managing and developing staff.
