Job Summary

The Medical Research Council is seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to fill the role of Head of People and Culture. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in shaping the organisational culture and ensuring that the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) and the Institute of Clinical Sciences (ICS) have the necessary talent, skills, and capabilities to achieve their strategic objectives.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, developing, and delivering the People and Culture operations for the LMS and ICS. This will include:

  • Developing and implementing HR strategies that align with the MRC's overall goals and objectives
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on employment law, HR policies, and procedures
  • Leading and managing the People and Culture team to ensure that they have the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise to deliver high-quality services
  • Developing and implementing training and development programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of staff
  • Working closely with senior management to ensure that the People and Culture function is aligned with the overall business strategy
Requirements

To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have:

  • A postgraduate level HR or Management qualification (CIPD, Diploma)
  • Significant relevant experience of leadership roles and managing budgets, teams, and services
  • Experience of working in a University or research environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with staff at all levels
  • Proven ability to lead and manage change, with a track record of delivering successful projects and initiatives
