About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Biologist to join our team at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will be responsible for elucidating the functional importance of the free fatty acid-binding pocket in the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein.
The role involves designing and characterizing SARS-CoV-2 spike protein mutants using biochemical, biophysical, and structural approaches. You will be working closely with our team to dissect the impact of LA-binding to the pocket on spike architecture and ACE2 receptor binding.
As a Structural Biologist, you will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art imaging approaches and infrastructure available in Bristol, including cryo-FIB-SEM and Talos Arctica microscope.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and characterize SARS-CoV-2 spike protein mutants using biochemical, biophysical, and structural approaches.
- Dissect the impact of LA-binding to the pocket on spike architecture and ACE2 receptor binding.
- Work closely with our team to elucidate the functional importance of the free fatty acid-binding pocket in the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein.
Requirements:
You should hold, or expect to hold shortly, a PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related. You have published experience in protein expression and purification, biophysical characterization, Cryo-EM, and image processing.
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual who is passionate about structural biology and has a strong background in protein expression and purification.
