Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for analyzing specimens, interpreting clinical request forms, and exercising judgment regarding work to be performed and priority relating to clinical urgency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze specimens for screening, diagnostic purposes, and the clinical management of patients.
  • Interpret clinical request forms and exercise judgment regarding work to be performed and priority relating to clinical urgency.
  • Handle a range of body fluids, tissue samples, and other infectious material according to category II containment procedures.
  • Handle chemicals according to COSHH regulations.
  • Handle radioactive materials according to IRMA regulations.
  • Deal with spillage of samples/chemicals in a safe and appropriate manner when necessary.
  • Use laboratory equipment safely in accordance with local and manufacturers guidelines.
Requirements
  • IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology or Virology (from 2005) or working towards this qualification.
  • Professional registration with HCPC.
  • Ability to plan and use your own time economically and effectively.
  • Good communication skills.
