Job Summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is a leading organization in the NHS, responsible for collecting and processing over 2 million blood donations annually. Our team of Healthcare Scientists plays a crucial role in supporting NHS Hospitals, processing, testing, and issuing blood and its components, as well as delivering diagnostic and therapeutic services related to blood and stem cell transfusions, transplantation, and tissue banking.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly team in the Stem Cells and Immunotherapies (SCI) laboratory in Southampton. As a Health Professions Council (HPC) registered Biomedical Scientist, you will have the opportunity to develop expertise in transplantation science and contribute to our dynamic environment.

This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a 24-hour on-call rota requiring attendance on evenings and weekends. You will receive additional payment for these hours.

Main Duties of the Job
  • You will be responsible for performing, analyzing, recording, and interpreting a wide range of laboratory investigations and technical procedures related to patient test results and the processing and issue of stem cell and immunotherapy products, with the support of the team.
  • You will be required to handle blood and tissue samples and operate a range of laboratory analyzers and equipment.
  • You will be responsible for the support and training of new and less experienced staff.
