Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology and Virology department. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the ongoing changes related to our newly implemented network LIMS.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Medical Microbiology or Virology and experience with Clinisys WinPath. You will be responsible for leading on all aspects of quality management in a section of the laboratory, including implementation of new methods. Additionally, you will work with and lead on verification and implementation projects for new tests and equipment within your section.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist Section Lead who can communicate effectively with staff and service users. You will be required to work shifts on a 24/7 rota system, including weekend, nights, and bank holiday working.

The laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189, and we have a wide range of equipment throughout the department, including MALDI-TOF, SediMAX, BD MGIT, Serosep Enteric-bio, GeneXpert, Diasorin Liaison, Qiagen extraction, and post-elution PCR platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage, prioritize, and implement changes related to the new Laboratory Information System (LIMS).
  • Ensure that any changes to the LIMS adhere to local governance procedures.
  • Lead on all aspects of quality management in a section of the laboratory.
  • Work with and lead on verification and implementation projects for new tests and equipment.
  • Supervise and train inexperienced BMS, trainee BMS, or MLA staff.
  • Communicate and liaise with other IT and laboratory leads regarding Change control processes.
