Job Title: Principal Engineer Nuclear

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer Nuclear to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Platform Nuclear Engineering Department, you will play a critical role in the design, build, and test activities on the Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) across multiple programmes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement sound technical solutions to issues arising during construction and commissioning of the Naval Plant Reactor.
  • Support or act as the engineering member of the test and authorisation groups, depending on experience.
  • Specialise in EC&I discipline and ensure the design intent of the Naval Reactor Plant is maintained during build and test activities on site.
  • Author Chief Engineer Declaration Statements based on engineering review of the as-built/as-tested status of the plant to support entry into nuclear build phase.
  • Carry out nuclear safety assessment of submarine design changes and deviations from the submarine design intent.
  • Provide technical rationale and sound engineering recommendations to Rolls-Royce and MoD to challenge existing requirements.
  • Interface with Build/Test teams for engineering solutions and enable efficient programme execution with engineering solutions.
Requirements:
  • Degree qualified Electrical Engineering or Control and Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Experience of supporting build and commissioning of Electrical and/or Control Systems.
  • Demonstrable understanding of 3 phase/single phase machines; digital and analogue based control systems and mechanical interfaces.
  • Technical report writing skills.
Desirable:
  • Experience of justifying design change, ideally on a Nuclear Plant.
  • Previous Nuclear Plant experience.
  • Knowledge of the Nuclear Industry and Nuclear Regulations (or other highly regulated industry).
  • Exposure to Microsoft Office Suite.
