Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Radiation Physicist to join our Radiation Physics & Shielding team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK's nuclear powered submarine fleet.
You will work closely with our team to conduct radiological safety studies, design novel radiation detectors, and develop capability in the field of radiation damage to electronics.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the field of radiation physics and contribute to the success of our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervising and conducting analysis and experiments to support system qualification
- Supporting progression of design optimisation
- Producing and reviewing radiological safety justifications for proposed design solutions
- Direct development of in-house toolsets in support of the department goals
- Leading detailed shield design, balancing build requirements alongside system performance requirements
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Relevant STEM degree in Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry/Nuclear Engineering
- Demonstrable experience of radiation transport codes such as MCNP/MCBEND/Attilla
- Understanding of radiation physics
- Experience of radiation safety studies & behaviours
- Experience of radiation metrology
- Knowledge of the ALARP principle
Desirable Skills:
Experience of managing technical projects would be an advantage.
