Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing AIT Mechanical Engineering support, including writing processes, plans, and procedures in 3D Experience for the production of Satellites and payloads.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Project Preparation Phase
    1. Support the customization phase starting at the project kick-off.
    2. Participate in project DMU (Digital mock-up/design for manufacture) sessions to ensure design for manufacture.
    3. Develop documentation required for the production phases, including ACS inputs, work instructions, and procedures.
    4. Lead the installation of Satellite appendages and applicable integration flows and preparation.
    5. Support the definition of MGSE for use on the Satellite and support procurement activities.
    6. Collaborate with the Process Owner team in all aspects of their role.
  2. Project Operational Phase
    1. Support the AIT Lead Engineering team during periods of high workload.
    2. Assist process owners with observation resolution and operational activities.
    3. Oversee unit installation activities on the Satellite.
    4. Support quality reviews, conduct PFMEA and Root Cause Analysis.
    5. Develop re-work instructions based on project requirements and identify parts and tooling required to carry them out.
  3. Non-Project
    1. Design tooling/build aids for assembly execution.
    2. Support R&D activities.
    3. Develop training modules and maintain them.
    4. Ensure that working modes and processes are standardized, optimized, and current. Develop new processes, undertake process improvement, and maintenance, and monitor process implementation in operations.
Requirements

Essential

  1. High mechanical skills and relevant experience.
  2. Writing procedures and process control.
  3. Practical and proactive approach.
  4. Quality-driven approach with high attention to detail.
  5. Knowledge and experience in producing high-quality documentation (test specs, test plans, test procedures, AIT Plans, DDV plans).
  6. High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi-project basis.
  7. Good problem-solving skills (technical, logistics, and organizational).
  8. Good planning skills and process competence (MRP system experience an advantage).
  9. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  10. Appreciation of satellite integration processes and project phases.
  11. Satellite appendage installation process (Solar Array, reflectors, antennas, deployable systems).
  12. Good understanding and detailed experience of complex mechanical systems.
  13. Lean manufacturing techniques, including 5S, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  14. Prepare and carry out environmental tests (Vibration, Acoustic, Mass properties, Thermal) at unit, subsystem, instrument, and spacecraft level.
  15. Handling and installation of thermal hardware (heaters, thermistors).
  16. Mechanical integration of electronic units, subsystems, and instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, mechanical sub-systems, instruments, payloads, and spacecraft, and control the documentation/process associated with performing these.
  17. Previous experience of payload builds is a distinct advantage.
