Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Guidant Global. As a key member of our AIT Mechanical Engineering team, you will be responsible for providing support to the production of satellites and payloads, including writing processes, plans, and procedures in 3D Experience.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Project Preparation Phase
    1. Support the customisation phase from project kick-off, ensuring design for manufacture.
    2. Participate in DMU sessions to guarantee design for manufacture.
    3. Contribute to the creation of documentation required for production phases, including ACS inputs, work instructions, and procedures.
    4. Lead the installation of satellite appendages and applicable integration flows and preparation.
    5. Support the definition of MGSE for use on the satellite and support procurement activities.
    6. Collaborate with the Process Owner team in all aspects of their role.
  2. Project Operational Phase
    1. Support the AIT Lead Engineering team during periods of high workload.
    2. Support process owners with observation resolution and operational activities.
    3. Oversee unit installation activities on the satellite.
    4. Support quality reviews, conduct PFMEA and Root Cause Analysis.
    5. Support the creation of re-work instructions based on project requirements and identify parts and tooling required to carry them out.
  3. Non-Project
    1. Design tooling/build aids for assembly execution.
    2. Support R&D activities.
    3. Develop and maintain training modules.
    4. Ensure that working modes and processes are standardised, optimised, and current, producing new processes, undertaking process improvement and maintenance, and monitoring process implementation in operations.

Essential

  • High mechanical skills and relevant experience.
  • Writing procedures and process control.
  • Practical and proactive.
  • Quality-driven approach with high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience in producing high-quality documentation (test specs, test plans, test procedures, AIT Plans, DDV plans).
  • High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi-project basis.
  • Good problem-solving skills (technical, logistics, and organisational).
  • Good planning skills and process competence, (MRP system experience an advantage).
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Appreciation of satellite integration processes and project phases.
  • Satellite appendage installation process (Solar Array, reflectors, antennas, deployable systems).
  • Good understanding and detailed experience of complex mechanical systems.
  • Lean manufacturing techniques including 5S, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and carry out environmental tests (Vibration, Acoustic, Mass properties, Thermal) at unit, subsystem, instrument, and spacecraft level.
  • Handling and installation of thermal hardware (heaters, thermistors).
  • Mechanical integration of electronic units, subsystems, and instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, mechanical sub-systems, instruments, payloads, and spacecraft and control the documentation/process associated with performing these.
  • Previous experience of payload builds is a distinct advantage.
