Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Department Manager to lead our electro-mechanical diagnostic team. As an employee of UKAEA, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge fusion research and development, contributing to the realization of fusion energy.

This role involves providing leadership, guidance, and support to a team of technical specialists, ensuring the successful delivery of projects and initiatives. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing new techniques, methods, and processes to improve quality and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of electro-mechanical diagnostic specialists in analyzing plasma for both UK and international fusion machines.
  • Implement techniques, methods, and processes to improve quality and delivery, while promoting a positive can-do attitude within the team.
  • Provide clear and positive leadership, encouraging effective team working, fostering knowledge sharing, and supporting the technical development of staff.
  • Support the technical development of staff through mentoring, coaching, and direct teaching.

Requirements:

  • Proven leadership experience through a track record of success in team and project management of engineer/technology work.
  • Experience of line management of technical teams (scientific, engineering, technology etc).
  • Degree or equivalent experience in relevant Engineering field, e.g. mechanical engineering, precision engineering.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people, working with and interfacing with projects, internal and external customers.
  • Experience of delivering key engineering/technology milestones within agreed time frame.

Salary: £67,023 (inclusive of MPP) + excellent benefits
