Job Overview

This 24-month Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery program aims to produce competent, caring, research and evidence-based midwives capable of delivering effective woman-centred care for mothers and their families.

Main Duties of the Job

  • To attain a registered midwifery qualification.
  • To communicate effectively with women and their families and provide a high standard of midwifery care throughout preconception, antenatal, intra-partum, and postnatal periods under the supervision of a registered midwife/mentor.
  • To diagnose pregnancy, assess, and monitor women holistically throughout the preconception, antenatal, intra-partum, and postnatal stages through the use of a range of assessment methods and reach valid, reliable, and comprehensive conclusions under the supervision of a registered midwife/mentor.
  • To work towards achieving the midwifery standards of proficiency agreed with the HEI provider and set out in the Midwifery Practice Assessment Document.
  • To work towards achieving experience under supervision of the activities of the midwife as outlined in the European Union Midwives Directive (80/155/EEC Article 4).

  • Worked in a variety of settings utilising all life skills or transferable skills.
  • At least 6 months post-qualification clinical working experience as an adult nurse on the NMC register in the UK.

Qualifications

  • A registered adult nurse (level 1) with current registration with the NMC.
  • A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2:2 with a minimum qualification of Diploma in Higher Education with evidence of study at Level 6.

Desirable Criteria

  • Completion of a Research Awareness course.

Essential Criteria

  • Is willing to work in and travel to all places of work.
  • Able to work rotational shifts i.e. days/nights/weekends/bank holidays.
  • Is in good general health and fit for the post as assessed by Occupational Health.
  • Can undertake all duties of a midwifery student in the hospital and community setting.
  • Satisfactory DBS check.
