Special Education Teacher

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with special needs. This role requires a strong understanding of curriculum and instructional strategies to support students with varying abilities and learning styles.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students based on evaluation data and research-based practices.
- Support student learning in the least restrictive environment, collaborating with general education teachers and other staff to ensure a comprehensive approach to education.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, using a range of strategies and technologies to engage and motivate learners.
- Document student progress and maintain accurate records of student performance, accommodations, and services provided.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement behavior support plans, ensuring a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Participate in special education meetings, building and district meetings as directed by the special education supervisor.
- Log and maintain monthly Service Capture reporting requirements for Medicaid Billing.
- Maintain an electronic log to document students' goals and objectives, accommodations, and other IEP-related services.
- Bachelor's degree in education with endorsement in at least one area of special education (ASD, EI, CI, SLD, PI, HI, VI, TBI, etc.).
- Current appropriate Michigan special education teaching certification.
- Demonstrated understanding of current research on how children learn and ability to motivate students to perform at their best.
- Demonstrated competency in the administration and interpretation of academic testing and development of behavior support plans.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing.
