Job Summary

The Special Education Teacher is a vital member of our educational team, responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs. This role requires a deep understanding of current research on how children learn and the ability to motivate students to perform at their best.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students based on evaluation data and research-based practices.
  • Support student learning in the least restrictive environment, differentiating instruction to ensure student progress.
  • Document student progress on goals and objectives, accommodations, service time, and discipline/suspensions.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other staff to provide support and documentation for the implementation and review of existing evaluation data.
  • Participate in special education/building/district meetings as directed by the special education supervisor.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in education with endorsement in at least one area of special education.
  • Current appropriate Michigan special education teaching certification.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current research on how children learn and the ability to motivate students to perform at their best.
  • Demonstrated competency in the administration and interpretation of academic testing and development of behavior support plans.
Work Environment

The Special Education Teacher will work in a moderate noise level environment, indoors, with occasional outdoor activities. Regular and on-time attendance is required.
