Special Education Teacher

Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with special requirements. This role involves developing and adapting curriculum to ensure students with disabilities receive a comprehensive education.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students based on evaluation data and research-based practices.
- Support student learning in the least restrictive environment, differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Document student progress on goals and objectives, accommodations, and service time, ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, service providers, and other staff to provide support and documentation for the implementation and review of existing evaluation data.
- Participate in special education/building/district meetings as directed by the special education supervisor, contributing to the development of effective support plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education with endorsement in at least one area of special education.
- Current Michigan special education teaching certification.
- Demonstrated understanding of current research on how children learn and ability to motivate students to perform at their best.
- Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic testing and development of behavior support plans.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment, communicating effectively in the English language.
Work Environment
The Special Education Teacher will work in a school setting, interacting with students, parents, and colleagues to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.
