Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in providing a medicines management service to patients within the prison environment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide a medicines management service to the allocated prison(s) on a weekly basis, working closely with a prison services pharmacist.
  • Oversee the ordering and supply of repeat prescriptions, ensuring accurate and timely dispensing.
  • Supervise assistants in the dispensary, providing guidance and support to ensure high standards of work.
  • Dispense prescriptions and stock items, maintaining accurate records and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Work towards accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines administration, providing final dispensing checks and medicines administration services.
  • Ensure high standards of work in the dispensary and during prison visits, adhering to SOPs and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Manage own workload, prioritizing tasks and ensuring timely completion of duties.
  • Provide weekly clinical visits to the allocated prison(s), undertaking stock top-up services, reviewing expiry dates and storage facilities, and reporting any deficiencies to the prison service pharmacist.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles for offenders, in line with local and national guidelines and promotions.
  • Administer medicines to offenders against a valid prescription, maintaining accurate records and adhering to SOPs.
  • Demonstrate ongoing continual professional development (CPD) and be responsible for self-development and learning within the field of pharmacy or other specialty where appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical and departmental audits as required, contributing to the improvement of services and patient care.
  • Appreciate the secure environment and adhere to all prison procedures as necessary.
  • Undertake any other tasks at the request of the Lead Prison Services Pharmacist.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
    • Registration with GPhC as a pharmacy technician
    • Evidence of CPD
  • Desirable:
    • Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate
Requirements
  • 2 years' experience of working in a pharmacy
  • Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience (desirable)
Skills and Abilities
  • Good knowledge of working within a set of SOPs
  • Ability to use (or learn to use) computer packages including Pharmacy Manager/JAC and Microsoft
