Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Head Beekeeper to manage our honey production colonies. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining healthy, pest-free bees and ensuring the highest quality honey production.
Key Responsibilities
- Colony Maintenance: Manage and maintain our honey production colonies at our Head Office and occasionally at our hotels.
- Nuc Production: Produce new colonies (nucs) for expansion and replacement.
- Manoeuvre of Colonies: Move colonies on crops to ensure optimal honey production.
- Honey Extraction & Bottling: Extract and bottle honey every 3-4 weeks during the bee season.
- Frame Building: Construct and repair frames for our honey production colonies.
- Transport of Hives: Transport hives between our sites across the Southwest.
- Hive Inspection & Records: Conduct routine hive inspections and maintain accurate records.
- Apiary Maintenance: Maintain the overall health and well-being of our apiaries.
- Occasional Collection & Deliveries: Make occasional collections and deliveries as required.
- Candle Making: Produce candles from our honey during the winter months.
Requirements
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years' experience in beekeeping, bee health, and honey production.
- Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of plant and animal biology, as well as the physicality to manoeuvre heavy equipment.
- Carpentry Skills: Previous experience in carpentry and frame building is advantageous.
- Driving Licence: A full, clean driving licence is essential.
