Job Overview

SENDirect is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support deaf children in a Primary School setting. This full-time position offers a temporary to permanent contract, providing an excellent opportunity to work with students who require additional support in communication and learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored assistance to deaf students in accessing the curriculum through tailored learning strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers to create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist with the development of communication skills, including the use of British Sign Language (BSL) if applicable.
  • Monitor student progress and report on their development to teachers and parents.
  • Foster a positive, supportive relationship with students, encouraging confidence and independence.
  • Work closely with the school's SEN team to develop personalised learning plans for students.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working with children with hearing impairments is desirable but not essential.
  • A basic understanding of British Sign Language (BSL) or a willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
