Environmental Impact Manager - Climate and Nature Expert

Location: London

We are seeking a dedicated and results-oriented climate and nature expert for the position of Environmental Impact Manager - Climate and Nature Expert in our Environmental team, part of the Active Ownership department.

The Role

This role will involve developing, supporting and conducting company engagements on environmental topics, with a focus on nature, and contributing to our broader stewardship efforts. The role offers the right person an opportunity to engage with company boards and senior management on environmental topics on behalf of a fund that owns on average 1.4% of all listed companies globally. You will be a key resource on nature for the fund, providing expertise to internal portfolio managers and other stakeholders across the company. Alongside colleagues from the Active Ownership department, you will help develop the fund's ownership positions and practices. Individuals with a strong business or investment experience and subject matter expertise within nature and climate change issues are encouraged to apply.

The position is located in London, with the option of Oslo for the right applicant, and will report to the Head of the Environmental team. Some travel is required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Engage with company boards and management on nature and climate-related business risks and opportunities
  2. Provide expertise as an internal resource on nature to stakeholders across the company
  3. Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of companies' risk exposure, management and performance when it comes to environmental topics
  4. Further develop our policies and practices on nature-related active ownership activities, including their expectations of companies and proxy voting activities
  5. Engage with standard setters, peer investors and other external stakeholders on nature-related issues
  6. Contribute to external communication efforts on responsible investment and ESG integration in the investment processes
  7. Contribute to a collaborative, dedicated and high-performing team

Requirements

You have the ability to work simultaneously on a range of projects while prioritizing tasks and meeting timelines.

You have a strong ambition to excel with a high level of integrity. You have excellent analytical skills as well as a proactive and self-driven work style. You are creative and structured with strong attention to detail. You are an experienced collaborator with strong interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Master's degree in finance, economics, environmental sciences or other relevant field with strong academic records
  2. Expertise in nature-related issues
  3. Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience working with corporate sustainability analysis or management from a corporate, investment manager, research provider or similar.
  4. Track record of impactful corporate engagement on nature and climate, and experience with investor engagement initiatives
  5. In-depth knowledge of international standards, reporting frameworks and ongoing regulatory developments on nature-related issues
  6. Good understanding of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues and their impact on investment and ownership decision making.

What We Offer

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including excellent health and dental benefits, a semi-annual physical exam, counselling services, reimbursement of gym membership fees, 25 vacation days, and one extra for the last week of the year. We also contribute 10% of base salary to your pension plan, no cap, no vesting period. You will get 16 weeks, gender-neutral, full base pay, parental leave to spend with your child. Mothers get an additional 10 weeks of pregnancy-related leave.
