At the British Antarctic Survey, we are committed to undertaking world-class science and delivering high-quality outcomes for UK polar science. We are seeking an exceptional leader to fill the role of Director of Science, responsible for guiding our scientific research with a clear vision.

About the Job

We are offering a competitive salary of £90,000 - £120,000 per annum, depending on experience. As Director of Science, you will be responsible for:

  • Fostering international collaborations and championing interdisciplinary approaches extending across UKRI and beyond.
  • Ensuring that BAS science is structured, organised, and strategically positioned to face new science challenges in the polar regions.
  • Developing a clear financial strategy for science, including an emphasis on increasing funding and sound budgetary management.

You will provide visible, charismatic leadership across all areas of BAS science, ensuring strategic delivery of world-class science with impact. Candidates should be at professorial level or above and are normally expected to hold a PhD. Strong financial management and strategic planning skills are essential, as well as a commitment to health and safety excellence and risk management.
