Job Summary:

AWE Plc is seeking a highly skilled Principal Maintenance Safety Engineer to lead our Maintenance Safety Team within the Engineering Safety Organisation. As a key member of our team, you will provide complex professional engineering judgement for the effective implementation of technical engineering safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting, managing, and assessing standards of competence for Maintenance Engineering Safety
  • Setting, promoting, and maintaining the site standard for generic maintenance activities in line with SFG20 and asset manufacturer's recommendations
  • Assessing suitability of maintenance scope and service for maintenance delivery by AWE and contract personnel for compliance with relevant regulations
  • Reviewing legislative records pertaining to maintenance engineering safety
  • Delivering advice on the safe and effective development and implementation of maintenance engineering safety at AWE
  • Providing oversight of supply chain's specialist contractors application of engineering safety when delivering tasks
  • Providing technical support in resolving complex and multifaceted issues across the business
  • Promoting continual improvement in the development and application of maintenance
  • Leading the development and efficient operation of the Engineering Safety Organisation
  • Making judgments on the safe and effective implementation of engineering safety within the area of authority
  • Leading the development of AWE engineering safety policies

Requirements:

  • Maintenance engineering background with knowledge and experience in demonstrating compliance with maintenance Relevant Good Practice (RGP), such as SFG20, CIBSE Guide M, ISO 55000, and Infrastructure/Plant/Equipment design standards
  • Experience of identifying, managing, and reporting to senior management
  • Experience of leading the delivery of engineering services across the life of an asset
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of maintaining infrastructure, plant, equipment, and systems
  • Good understanding of SFG20, CIBSE Guide M, ISO 55000, and relevant industry guidance with respect to ageing asset management
  • Good understanding of maintenance development from Infrastructure/Plant/Equipment design standards and associated inspection and maintenance requirements
  • Good understanding of root cause analysis, Failure Mode Effects (Criticality) Analysis, and Availability, Reliability & Maintainability tools and practice
  • Degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent suitable experience, such as IEng MIET
  • The ability to deliver maintenance engineering advice and guidance across an equivalent manufacturing and/or research environment comprising a range of infrastructure facilities and associated manufacturing and/or research plant and equipment

Security Clearance:

You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Our interviews typically take place over Teams and for most roles are a 1-stage process.

Working from Home:

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
