Charity Shop Manager

Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient operation of our charity shops, ensuring maximum profitability to support our client services.
People Management:
- Provide clear direction and support to volunteers, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
- Ensure volunteers are competent in their roles and identify training needs for the team.
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies to keep volunteers informed and engaged.
- Work closely with the Trading Manager and Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, induct, and motivate volunteers.
Resource Management:
- Minimise shop expenditure and collaborate with the Trading Manager to implement commercial practices that maximise profitability.
- Oversee the profitable operation of the shops, ensuring turnover targets are met, and assist in the maximisation of quality donations.
- Ensure stock items are effectively displayed and rotated, and donations are sorted and distributed efficiently.
- Develop and implement an effective pricing structure and demonstrate a good understanding of merchandising techniques.
Customer Service:
- Regularly review the display and presentation of the shop floor and windows, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
- Encourage customers to provide feedback through comment books, and ensure the shop area is tidy and attractive.
Leadership:
- Act as an effective role model, demonstrating the Sussex Beacon values in daily work and interactions.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, volunteers, and customers, and comply with organisational policies and procedures.
- Comply with and ensure volunteer compliance with financial procedures and security of shop takings.
Requirements:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Commercial and business acumen, with experience of handling cash and working in a commercial customer service environment.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Experience of supervising staff and volunteers, with a reliable and punctual approach to work.
- Fit to undertake the physical demands of the role, including lifting.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience of team management in a retail or commercial environment.
- Experience of volunteer management and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Commercial experience, preferably including managing a charity shop, with knowledge of health and safety guidelines.
Working Arrangements:
- Monday to Friday availability, with weekend shifts required.
- Work location: in-person at our charity shops.
Salary: £11.44 per hour.
