Perinatal Mortality Review Specialist Midwife

As a Perinatal Mortality Review Specialist Midwife, you will lead our approach to excellence in preventing and reducing perinatal mortality and morbidity within maternity and referral to other external organizations. You will provide specialist, expert advice, and education to support our clinical teams to deliver safe and compassionate care.
Main Responsibilities- Ensure bereaved families are actively involved and encouraged to participate in investigation relating to the loss of their baby.
- Work collaboratively with bereavement specialist midwives to develop quality monitoring systems related to PMRT.
- Provide training and support to the wider multidisciplinary team on all aspects of perinatal mortality and morbidity.
- Support and inform the Associate Directors of Midwifery, Lead Obstetric Consultant for Quality and Safety, and Quality and Safety Lead with robust data regarding perinatal loss.
- Liaise and coordinate with specialist bereavement midwives, including on case reviews.
- Monitor and control care standards, seeking opportunities for joint working, and ensuring all actions are implemented from audit findings and PMRT reports.
- Lead the translation of national guidelines and directives that relate to perinatal loss into local policy and clinical strategy development.
- Lead the development of staff training programs and local induction packages that support the implementation of PMRT feedback and effective practice.
- Disseminate and promote PMRT reports, MBBRRACE, and Each Baby Counts findings at relevant boards, committees, and in day-to-day clinical service operations.
- Identify gaps and risks in the service through PMRT reports and MBBRRACE findings and devise strategies to counter these and escalate when required.
- Coordinate internal and external PMRT reviews.
- Support the planning of strategies that impact across the service.
- Proactively impart specialist knowledge and share expertise with patients, nurses, midwives, managers, medical teams, and professionals allied to medicine.
- Demonstrate and share expert knowledge and skills via participation in formal and informal teaching programs for all professions allied to medicine and at site/ward-based point of care teaching sessions.
