Job Description

Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Job Type: Full-Time

Location: SEMH Residential School

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) residential school. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children who face challenges in mainstream education and are passionate about making a positive impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Provide tailored support to students, helping them engage with learning and feel included in the school community.
  • Building Relationships: Dedicate time to building strong, trusting relationships with both students and staff, ensuring that all needs are met in a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Resilience: Demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges, consistently maintaining a calm and positive demeanor.
  • Empathy: Show genuine empathy and understanding towards students, creating a safe and comfortable environment that encourages learning and personal growth.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure the holistic well-being of each student.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in SEMH settings or those who have struggled in mainstream schools.
  • Dedication: A commitment to a full-time role, demonstrating reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • Resilience & Empathy: The ability to remain patient, resilient, and empathetic, even in challenging situations.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with staff and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Encouraging Attitude: A positive, encouraging attitude that helps students feel included and motivated to learn.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: The appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
  • DBS Check: A valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
